Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)

Many people, especially children, depend on nutrition assistance programs like SNAP (known as CalFresh in California) for the food they need. Those few dollars their families receive make all the difference in helping them get the food they need to grow and learn.

The Farm Bill, which contains this funding, is up for reauthorization. The proposed bill would have a devastating impact on Central California’s food insecure and many more people will need our help, but Central California Food Bank will not be able to make up the shortfall. Please call your elected officials, especially your Congressperson, to ask them to vote against the proposed bill.

Here’s an easy way to let your voice be heard. Call Feeding America’s toll free number, and you will be connected to your elected official. Then follow the easy directions and leave a message asking them to protect and strengthen nutrition assistance programs.

1. Just dial this toll free number, (888) 398-8702 and listen to the pre-recorded message.
2. You will be asked to enter your zip code. Once you are connected to your first Member of Congress, state that you are a constituent and give your name and the town you are calling from.
3. Let the office know you are calling about SNAP – Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Programs.

As my Member of Congress, I urge you to protect and strengthen nutrition assistance programs like SNAP, school and summer meals, and other nutrition programs. Please protect these programs and pass a strong child nutrition bill that helps our children get the adequate and nutritious food they need to build healthy bodies and strong minds.
